LinkedIn’s Free AI Tool Will Tell You if It’s Worth Your Time to Apply for a Job

Finding and applying for jobs on LinkedIn can sometimes feel like an exercise in futility. But a new, free AI tool on the business-focused social network might help make the process a bit easier.

Jobs Match has a simple premise. Using AI, it will let you know if a particular job opening is worth your time applying. It’s available for all LinkedIn users, a big shift from the social network providing AI for just paying subscribers. LinkedIn users are currently sending more than 9,000 applications per minute.

Along with the tool for job seekers, it’s also launching a free tool to help recruiters better do their job. The AI agent is made for smaller businesses and mimics technology that larger companies use to manage job applications, find qualified candidates, and even triage applications.

In an interview with TechCrunch, LinkedIn’s Rohan Rajiv, director of product management, said the tools are made to help both parts of the recruiting equation:

“[They’re] spending three to five hours a day sifting through applications, and finding that less than half of the job applications submitted are actually meeting the required criteria,” he said. “This is completely broken, and we know that.”

Making Job Searching Easier

Previously, AI tools have mostly been available to paying subscribers using LinkedIn Premium.

While subscribers can tap a number of additional features, many have chosen not to bother with LinkedIn Premium. That’s mostly due to the high cost and low response rates.

The good news is that you can use other free AI tools to quickly improve your LinkedIn profile to better stand out in a crowd. For example, you can use ChatGPT to generate summaries and paragraphs on your profile.

It will be interesting to see if the new free AI tools for both job seekers and businesses can help make job seeking easier and more worthwhile on LinkedIn.
