This weekend’s auction results – Clearance rates around Australia
Typical high listing numbers over the pre-Grand Finals Super Saturday of auctions failed to quell buyer demand with more positive results generally reported in most capitals.

The national weekend auction market reported a clearance rate of 65.4% which was well above the 60.6% reported over the previous weekend – but below the 69.7% recorded over the same weekend last year.
National auction numbers were predictably higher at the weekend with 2601 listings versus the previous weekends 2330, and also remained well above the 2012 listed over the same weekend last year.
Auction numbers can be expected to fall sharply next weekend reflecting school holiday and football Grand Final distractions.

The Sydney auction market reported a higher clearance rate at the weekend despite a flood of auction numbers providing more choices for buyers.
Sydney recorded a clearance rate of 70.7% at the weekend which higher than the 69.2% recorded over the previous weekend but lower than the 75.9% rate recorded over the same weekend last year.
Auction numbers were significantly higher at the weekend with 1004 listed versus the 908 recorded over the previous weekend, and also higher than the 875 listed over the same weekend last year.
Sydney recorded a median price of $1,715,500 for houses sold at auction at the weekend which was higher than the previous weekend’s $1,714,000 and 0.1% higher than the $1,714,500 recorded over the same weekend last year.
The Upper North Shore recorded the highest regional clearance rate at the weekend at 78.2% followed by the Northern Beaches at 77.2% and the City and East and Inner West each at 74.3%. The Central Coast reported the lowest clearance rate at 40.7%.
The clearance rate for houses was 71.1% with units lower again this weekend at 69.1%.

Melbourne auction results
Note: Clearance rates steady over Melbourne super Saturday.
Melbourne clearance rates were similar to those reported over the previous weekend despite the usual big numbers of listings over the pre-Grand Final Super Saturday of auctions.
Melbourne recorded a clearance rate of 63.1% on Saturday which slightly lower than the 64.6% recorded over the previous weekend and also lower than the 70.5% recorded over the same weekend last year.
1282 homes were reported listed over the weekend which was significantly higher than the 1129 auctioned over the previous weekend and again well ahead of the 889 listed over the same weekend last year.
Melbourne recorded a median price of $1,008,000 for houses sold at auction at the weekend which was lower than the $1,090,000 reported over the previous weekend but 2.3% higher than the $985,000 recorded over the same weekend last year.
Melbourne’s South East reported the top regional clearance rate on Saturday with 67.1% followed by the Outer East at 66.9% and the North East at 64.8%. The Inner City recorded the lowest regional rate at 54.3%.
The house clearance rate for houses was 63.0% with units similar this weekend at 63.6%.
